I use Google Analytics to count visits and see which hobbies people open. That tells me what to write next. It is the only thing I use it for.
It records from your first visit, and stops the moment you switch it off. A notice
says so when you arrive. Google sets its usual _ga cookies to tell repeat
visits apart. I send IP anonymisation on and I have not enabled any advertising
features.
Switching it off is not just a hidden banner. It sets Google's own opt-out flag so
nothing further is sent, denies analytics storage, and deletes the _ga
cookies already on your machine. The choice is remembered on this device, and no
request goes to Google on later visits.
Changed your mind either way? Reopen the cookie choice. It works on any page, from the footer.
Submitting a hobby or signing up for Hobby of the Week opens your own email client. The form does not post anywhere. So I only ever have what you chose to put in an email, and you can see exactly what that is before you press send.
Email addresses are used to send you the thing you asked for and nothing else. Never sold and never shared with anybody. Ask me to delete your details and I will.
- No accounts, so no passwords to lose
- No advertising or remarketing tags
- No social media pixels or embedded trackers
- No selling or sharing of anything, to anyone
- No fingerprinting or cross-site profiling
The site is static files served by Cloudflare, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for security and abuse prevention. That happens for any website you visit and is not something I can switch off.
Questions, corrections, or a request to delete what I hold: hello@newhobby.org. A one-line email is fine.
