The guides.

One guide per hobby, answering the other question: how do I start? Written by somebody who is in the hobby, in the order you need it.

Let your passion burn.

The shape of a guide
  1. Use what you already own. Almost every hobby has a way in that costs nothing. That goes first.
  2. Learn the one fundamental. Exposure for photography. Sharpening for woodwork. Timing for guitar.
  3. Make your first attempt. Badly and on purpose. Then finish it.
  4. Buy the first real thing. Once you know what you are buying and why.
  5. Practise the part people skip. Usually the dull part that separates people who improve from people who plateau.
  6. Get one honest opinion. From somebody who will tell you the truth.
  7. Pick a direction. Into the specialisations, and into the tree.
Who writes them

People who do the hobby. Every guide is credited to whoever wrote it, and reviewed before it goes up. Anything technical or safety related gets checked by somebody who knows the subject.

It has to be their own writing from their own experience. Nothing copied and nothing generated by AI. One honest guide beats fifty borrowed ones. Borrowed ones are obvious to anybody in the hobby.

No shopping list up front

The quickest way to put somebody off a hobby is eight purchases before their first attempt. Kit appears in a guide at the point it becomes necessary, and recommendations are split into what you need and what can wait.

The list exists. The guides behind it do not. If you would write the first one, the submission form asks.
